About APMC

The Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), Karanja (Lad), is the first market committee established in India. In 1886, under the Hyderabad Residency Act, the first cotton market in India was started in Karanja (Lad), and from that day onwards, the Karanja Agricultural Produce Market Committee came into existence. The Maharashtra government, through the Directorate of Marketing, Maharashtra State, Pune, has announced the annual ranking of the state's Agricultural Produce Market Committees under the SMART project for the year 2023-24. In this ranking, the Karanja Agricultural Produce Market Committee secured the second position in the state and the first position in the Amravati division. This is a matter of pride for our district and for all of us. However, it takes many years for anything to become renowned or for a sapling to grow into a banyan tree, and this transformation requires the dedication of many individuals. The Chairman, Vice-Chairman, members, secretary, staff, buyers, commission agents, porters, weighers, assistants, and the farmers for whom the market committee works, all have a significant contribution to the success of the Karanja Agricultural Produce Market Committee. It is due to the collective efforts of all these individuals that the Karanja Agricultural Produce Market Committee has achieved its current reputation. In the Karanja Agricultural Produce Market Committee, under the leadership of the late former Chairman Prakashdada Dahake, the market committee has performed exceptionally well since 2002, and the late Dada served as the chairman of the market committee for 18 consecutive years. Under his leadership, various development works and schemes were implemented for the farmers in the market committee. He played a crucial role in bringing the market committee to prominence. Keeping his work as their goal, under the leadership of the current Chairperson, Hon. Smt. Sai Tai Prakash Dahake, the market committee is progressing further towards development, and the board of directors is working to provide excellent services to the farmers. The government's recognition of the market committee is a true tribute to the late Dada, and this award is dedicated to him.
